Marines Demonstrate Improved Coms Capabilities

Members of the III Marine Expeditionary Force came away from a recent exercise in the Pacific with a better handle on the way units would communicate and coordinate actions should conflict arise.

The exercise – Kaiju Rain 25 – involved heavy emphasis on using advanced command, control, communications, cyber, intelligence, reconnaissance and targeting (C5ISRT) capabilities. With these tools, III MIG was able to conduct operations with other Marine and Navy assets as well as allied partners.

“Bringing these capabilities together as a III MIG team as an information combat element projects the aggregated and integrated C5ISRT capability that enables joint coalition command and control and kill webs,” said Col. Joshua Mayoral, the unit’s commanding officer.

“Our ability to do that … is what postures us to deter adversaries, reassure partners and allies, and be able to fight and win battles,” Mayoral added.

During the exercise, information was directed to a central all-domain operations center (ADOC). From there, it was analyzed and quickly passed along to units in a coherent package. It is the first exercise of its kind that tested the latest C5ISRT capabilities, the service stated in a press release.

“We are in an information age, and right now with modern technology, information is one of the fastest moving things on Earth,” said Gunnery Sgt. Andrew Ogletree, the ADOC cell chief. “Whoever controls the flow of information will control the fight.”
