As part of a mission to add 22,000 Marines by 2011, the Corps wants qualified active-duty enlisted Marines to make lateral moves into recon. Marines in any MOS in paygrades E-1 to E-4 as well as E-5 with less than two years in grade can apply for a lateral move to MOS 0321, provided they have enough remaining obligated service or will re-enlist upon completion of the Basic Reconnaissance Course (BRC). First-term Marines assigned to infantry battalions must have served a minimum of one unit deployment. Re-enlistment for the lateral move may earn a $61,000 bonus. Those approved to move from occupational fields other than infantry (03XX) will be required to first complete the Marine Infantry Rifleman Course at either Camp Pendleton, Calif., or Camp Lejeune, N.C., before attending the BRC.
