Marines Offer Cash for Combat Extensions

Marines scheduled to leave active duty before Sept. 30 are being offered $3,000 to extend long enough to make a seven-month deployment. If they extend for a 12-month deployment, they will earn $6,000. ln either case, they must make the deployment with their unit if it’s scheduled to go, or accept re-assignment to a deploying unit. The new combat extension program is retroactive to Oct. 1, 2006. To be eligible, Marines must have less than 12 months remaining on their contract. A Marine who extends and re-enlists during the extension will not lose the assignment pay. For more information, see MarAdmin 323/07.
