MOAA President Bashes Congress, Administration

The President of the Military Officers Association of America, retired Navy Vice Adm. Norb Ryan Jr., has lashed out at both the Congress and the Administration for “misalignment of priorities” during a war. Referring to the Army’s Reserve Components having missed their recruiting quotas by thousands, he rapped the Senate for delaying the fiscal 2006 authorization bill (previous item) even though it would help recruiting and retention by measures such as an increase in Army end strength, a doubling of the maximum enlistment bonus, and health coverage for Selected Reserve members and families. He decried a proposal in Congress to cut the defense budget by 2 percent to help pay the costs of Hurricane Katrina.
