Mosul Tours Could Be Extended

Although Iraqi forces are scheduled to assume complete responsibility for their country’s security by June 30, U.S. soldiers may have to remain in the southern city of Mosul past that deadline. The ultimate decision rests with the Iraqi government, said Col. Gary Volesky, the commander of the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, during an April 14 video news conference from Iraq. While combat operations in other parts of Iraq have subsided considerably, the Mosul area is still beset by al-Qaida terrorist attacks.
