Move Compensation To Get Better

Service members and their families who choose to move their household goods themselves when relocating on military orders will now benefit from a better compensation system that took effect April 15. Under the new "Personally Procured Move" (PPM) system, which replaces the old "Do It Yourself" (DITY) system, reimbursements for moving expenses will fall into one of three categories: A 95-percent reimbursement for the "best value" the government would pay to move the goods as an incentive; actual-cost reimbursement, which will not exceed "best value" move costs; or actual-cost reimbursement that will actually cover the entire cost of the move, available when a government-furnished moving service is not available, subject to service headquarters pre-approval. Under PPM, service members will have the option of moving some or all of their possessions themselves. More information is available at online at www.move.mil
