NATO Commander: Renew Stare-Down With Russia

The military relationship with Russia should shift to one that again views the world’s largest country as a potential adversary, the commander of NATO said Jan. 5. Air Force Gen. Philip M. Breedlove made the remarks to reporters while traveling in Europe with Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Marine Corps Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr. The change effectively would table the effort to embrace Russia as a defense partner, which has been U.S. policy since the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1991.
