Navy Christens USS Anchorage

The Navy christened its newest amphibious transport dock, the USS Anchorage, during a May 4 ceremony at its namesake city in Alaska. Anchorage and its crew then headed to San Diego, to undergo final contract trials. The ship will be capable of carrying Marine landing forces for warfare and humanitarian missions, and can carry MV-22 Osprey and CH-46 Sea Knight aircraft, as well as landing craft air cushion (LCAC) vehicles. It was built at Huntington Ingalls Industries Shipbuilding in Avondale, La., and delivered to the Navy in September.
