In the aftermath of revelations that NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams fabricated significant portions of stories he reported during the early years of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the network has suspended him for six months without pay. “Brian misrepresented events which occurred while he was covering the Iraq War in 2003. It then became clear that on other occasions Brian had done the same while telling that story in other venues. This was wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian’s position,” said NBC News President Deborah Turness on Feb. 10. Williams’ falsehoods center upon his contention that he was a passenger on a military aircraft that had been struck by an enemy round.
