NFL ‘Salute’ Came at Taxpayer Expense

The “Salute to Service” events that took place at National Football League games last season cost taxpayers $5.4 million, according to a report by the news Web site NJ.com. Fourteen teams were involved, each receiving payments ranging from $1.05 million to the Atlanta Falcons to $20,000 to the Miami Dolphins. Much of the funding came from the National Guard, according to the report. The Guard justified the activity and expense, calling the campaign a recruiting tool.
