Obama Speech Lauds Those in Uniform

During his Feb. 24 address to a joint session of Congress, President Obama reaffirmed the nation’s commitment and gratitude to the nation’s military. "To each and every one of them, and to the families who bear the quiet burden of their absence, Americans are united in sending one message: We honor your service, we are inspired by your sacrifice, and you have our unyielding support," he said. Obama promised to make public the cost of the Iraq war, increase the number of Marines and soldiers in uniform, and expand veterans’ access to health care "that they have earned." He also told lawmakers that even though the detention center at Guantanamo Bay Naval Station, Cuba, will close, he will seek "certain justice for captured terrorists."
