PCS Family Escort Rules Change

Service members who are traveling on indeterminate temporary duty (IDTY) can now accompany their family members to an alternate location at government expense, under a new provision of the Joint Federal Travel Regulations. IDTY is similar to temporary additional duty (TAD) and temporary duty assignment (TDY), except that there is no specified time period or end-of-date in the orders. To qualify for the entitlement, service members must hold IDTY orders dated March 15, 2010, or later. Those with older orders can have them modified, but the modification does not grandfather to prior travel. More details are available in NAVADMIN 227/10, on the Navy Personnel Command Web site at www.npc.navy.mil/.
