Beneficiaries of TRICARE, the military’s managed health-care program, began paying more for prescription drugs on Feb. 1. The increases apply only to brand name and non-formulary medications that are not filled at pharmacies located in military hospitals and clinics. The cost for generic medications has not changed. They still cost $5 when filled at a TRICARE network pharmacy, and are free when filled through TRICARE Home Delivery. Brand-name medications obtained at retail network pharmacies now cost $17 each, and $13 through home delivery of 90-day supplies. Non-formulary medications now cost $44 at network pharmacies and $43 for home delivery. In coming years, prescription copayments will rise based upon annual cost-of-living adjustments retirees receive. More details are available online at www.TRICARE.mil/pharmacycosts.
