Recruiting Largely Holds Steady

The Army Reserve is the only component of the armed services to miss its recruiting goal for the 12-month period that began Oct. 1. Through March, the Army Reserve reported 12,976 accessions – short of its goal of 14,477. The active Army reported 33,857 accessions; the active Navy reported 17,350; the active Marine Corps reported 13,010; and the active Air Force reported 13,989. The Army National Guard reported 26,100 accessions; the Navy Reserve reported 2,700; the Marine Corps Reserve reported 4,518; the Air National Guard reported 4,875; and the Air Force Reserve reported 3,685. The active Army, Army Guard and active Marine Corps exceeded accession goals; the other components met theirs.
