Report: Behavior in Russia Led to AF General’s Firing

The Air Force relieved the top commander of its ballistic-missile systems in October because of behavior he exhibited while visiting Russia on official business last summer, according to media reports. The Moscow Times, an independent, English-language publication based in the Russian capital, reported Dec. 23 that Maj. Gen. Michael Carey was fired after Air Force leadership got word that he had engaged in heavy drinking, behaved rudely to his hosts, and associated with “suspect” women during the July trip. Carey was commander of the 20th Air Force at the time. Military investigators began probing the allegations of Carey’s inappropriate activity after a female member of the U.S. delegation came forward with complaint about his behavior.
