Role During Interrogations Questioned

The American Psychological Association has taken steps to distance the profession from the roles some members played in interrogation of suspected terrorists while President George W. Bush was in office. The action follows release of a report that detailed “troubling instances of collusion” among psychologists and interrogators at the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay Naval Station, Cuba. “The actions, policies and the lack of independence from government influencer described in the … report represented a failure to live up to our core values,” the APA said in a statement. The organization called for adopting a strict policy forbidding its members from assisting in any military- or intelligence-related interrogations.
