Chief Master Sergeant James A. Roy, presently the command chief master sergeant for U.S. Forces Japan and Fifth Air Force at Yokota Air Base, Japan, has been chosen to become the 16th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. Roy, who began his 27-year Air Force career as a heavy equipment operator in the civil engineer career field before assuming numerous leadership positions, will assume his role as the service’s top enlisted leader in a June 30 Pentagon ceremony. Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, the Air Force chief of staff, nominated him May 8 to succeed CMSAF Rodney J. McKinley, who is retiring.
