The Small Business Administration will kick off a three-year pilot program June 28 to expedite business loans and increase the maximums. Under the Patriot Express Loan program borrowers and lenders will know within a day or two whether the SBA will guarantee the loan, said an SBA official. The loans will be for amounts up to $500,000. The SBA will guarantee amounts of $150,000 or less up to 85 percent. Loans of more than $150,000 will be guaranteed up to 75 percent. Interest rates will run 2.25 percent to 4.75 percent over prime, depending on the size and maturity date of the loan. Eligibility includes veterans, Guard and reserve members, active-duty members enrolled in the Transition Assistance Program, and spouses of any of these individuals. Also eligible are surviving spouses of service members or veterans who died on active duty or of a service-connected disability.
