Despite the financial constraints imposed by the sequestration, the Marine Corps will allow the hiring of civilians in several essential career fields to continue. In a July 12 directive, the service’s office of manpower and reserve affairs instructed commanders and staff agency chiefs to move forward with filling warfighter and family services, sexual assault prevention and response, overseas, firefighter, police officer, dispatcher, emergency medical services, air traffic control, boiler plant operations, range control, legal, maintenance depot, financial management, and contracting slots. Hiring is also approved for personnel who would deploy, or manage civilian human resources offices.
