Two soldiers won championship bouts in their respective weight classes during the 2013 National Golden Gloves Boxing Championships, held in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 18. Spec. Marquis Moore beat Kyrone Davis of Pennsylvania, winning the 165-pound weight class title. Spec. Steven Nelson defeated Randy Foster of Tennessee by decision, earning the 178-pound weight class title. Both Moore and Nelson had to win four bouts to qualify for the finals. They are members of the Fort Carson, Colo.-based U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program (WCAP). “The guys showed up and showed out,” said WCAP head boxing coach Staff Sgt. Charles Leverette.
