The proposed 2013 defense budget asks for $300 million for development of a next-generation bomber for the Air Force, $100 million to increase cruise-missile capacity on Virginia-class fast attack submarines, $10.4 billion for special operations forces, $3.4 billion for enhancements of cyber capabilities; and $1.8 billion for development of the next-generation aerial tanker to replace the Air Force’s aging KC-135 fleet. Other prospective gainers include: unmanned air systems ($3.7 billion); missile defense ($9.7 billion); space ($8 billion); and science and technology ($11.9 billion).
