Incidences of sexual assault in the armed forces are declining, according to the results of an independent survey conducted by the RAND Corporation. The survey, conducted last year, shows the percentage of women who reported unwanted sexual contact declined to 4.3 percent in 2014, compared to 6.1 percent in 2012. The number of men who reported unwanted sexual contact declined to 0.9 percent in 2014, compared to 1.2 percent in 2012. Numbers show that 18,900 service members reported unwanted sexual contact in 2014, compared to 26,000 in 2012. Women are more likely to report sexual assault than their male counterparts. According to the survey, 40 percent of all women who become victims report such incidents, compared to about 10 percent of all men.
