Tanker Competition Not Settled

Another company wants to enter the ongoing fray to procure the highly contested contract for the Air Force’s next tanker aircraft. EADS, the European defense conglomerate, has asked the Defense Department for time to submit a proposal. EADS had been a partner with Northrop Grumman, which pulled out of the competition earlier this month – apparently leaving Boeing with a seemingly guaranteed inside track to secure the $35 billion deal to build the KC-X. If DoD approves the EADS request, the company would get 90 days beyond the May 10 deadline to prepare its new offer.
