UK Bases Cancel Independence Day Celebrations

Citing concerns of a possible terrorist attack, the Air Force canceled Independence Day celebrations at its two biggest bases in Great Britain – RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall, the Associated Press reported July 3. The Air Force did not provide specifics regarding security concerns, but the AP cited the impending 10th anniversary of a terrorist bombing of a London transit station on July 7 as a possible reason. The report also mentioned a threat issued by the Islamic State, which promised to increase attacks during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.
