Unmanned Minesweeping System Shows Promise

The Navy successful tested a new minesweeping system intended for use on the new littoral combat ships (LCSs) in July. The shore- and sea-based Unmanned Influence Sweep System demonstrated that it could find mines while keeping sailors out of harms way, during tests conducted at the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Panama City, Fla., division. The project still must undergo further testing before it is ready for deployment on LCS vessels, Seapower magazine reported in July 21 issues.
