USPS Issues Purple Heart Stamp

The U.S. Postal Service began sales of a new stamp, depicting the Purple Heart medal with ribbon, on May 2, to honor service members who have been killed or wounded in action. The stamp includes a photograph of Army 1st Lt. Arthur J. Rubin of Bronx, N.Y., receiving his medal for wounds he sustained in Normandy two days after the D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944. Rubin, who also received the Silver Star for valor, died in 1978. The latest Purple Heart stamp is the second of its kind. The Postal Service issued the first in 2003.
