VA Sets New High for Claims Processing

The Department of Veterans Affairs processed more than 1.3 million claims during fiscal year 2014, which began last Oct. 1 and ended Sept. 30 – the most in department history. The figure exceeded 2013’s record mark by more than 150,000 claims. The agency attributes the increased productivity to new efforts to grapple with the disability-claims backlog, which now sits at its lowest mark in four years, according to the agency. On its Web site, VA claimed the agency is well on its way toward the target of reducing the wait for claims processing by 119 days by 2015. The department also stated that processing accuracy now sits at 90 percent, compared to 83 percent in 2011.
