VA To Relax 40-Mile Rule

Relief is on the way for veterans who had been denied access to health care under the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Veterans Choice Program. The department is doing away with the provision that stipulated veterans were eligible only if they lived 40 miles away from the nearest VA medical-treatment facility as the crow flies. Instead, eligibility now will be based on actual distances veterans must travel to reach VA facilities. The Veterans Choice Program allows veterans to receive care within their communities if no VA facility is nearby.
