VFW Issues Scam Warning

The Veterans of Foreign Wars advised all veterans to be on the lookout for a bogus online communiqué purporting to come from the service organization. Recipients of the scam message are getting it via email or though Facebook and other social media. The sender identifies himself as a VFW “special agent” named “Mike,” who wishes to help disabled, “deaf,” and “less privilege” (cq) veterans receive $50,000. The sender provides a questionnaire requesting personal information. “DO NOT REPLY,” the real VFW stated July 8 on its Web site. “This outreach is NOT associated with VFW in any capacity. It is a scam.” Veterans and VFW members who have questions about the validity of any such message they receive, the service organization urges them to have them checked out at any local VFW post or department.
