All active and reserve components except the Army National Guard and Army Reserve either reached or exceeded recruiting goals through March or fiscal year 2014, which began Oct. 1. Retention remains strong and should continue to do so, the Pentagon announced May 6. The Army Guard reported 25,781 new accessions while the Army Reserve reported 13,719 – short of their respective goals of 26,521 and 14,526. The Air Force Reserve posted the highest gain, with 3,217 accessions – well ahead of the goal of 2,673. The active Army posted 27,886 accessions while the Marine Corps Reserve added 4,082 – slightly ahead of their projected goals. The active Navy (15,699 accessions), active Air Force (12,982 accessions), Navy Reserve (2,032 accessions), and Air National Guard (4,920 accessions) each reached their goals.
