The inaugural awarding of the Air Force Combat Action Medal is now slated for June, representing a delay of about a month from the original rollout plan. Reasons given by an Air Force spokesman include time needed to complete nominations for the initiating ceremony and a place to hold it. Another factor is the design of the medal. As originally planned, an American eagle was to be facing toward an olive branch held in one claw, looking forward to peace, while keeping arrows clutched at the ready in the other. A redesign announced in April will have the eagle facing the arrows.
