The Air Force is delaying the colonel (0-6) selective early retirement board (SERB) by six weeks, the service announced June 29. The lieutenant colonel (0-5) SERB is taking place as scheduled. According to an Air Force announcement, The July SERB will now take place Aug. 30. The extension will give SERB-eligible colonels the opportunity to apply for retirement voluntarily until Aug. 20. The SERB mandatory retirement date is now Feb. 1, 2011. The Air Force has convened the early retirement boards in order to address overstaffing in several career fields.
