The Air Force is expanding the areas on its installations in which tobacco use is prohibited. Medical treatment facilities will be completely tobacco-free by September. Airmen in uniform cannot use tobacco during duty hours in formal training courses as well. Despite official discouragement of tobacco use, roughly 23 percent of all airmen still smoke, according to service statistics. The Air Force recommends that tobacco users visit the official tobacco-cessation Web site, www.ucanquit2.org, to develop a plan of action for stopping smoking altogether.
