Certain active-duty airmen who wish to retire or separate will be able to do so a little bit longer. The Air Force has extended the window beyond the normal 12 months, through Nov. 16, for those eligible to retire or separate on Dec. 1, 2013, Jan. 1, 2014, or Feb. 1, 2014. Those who accept the Air Force’s offer will see their separation or retirement processed with minimal delays. The offer applies to enlisted airmen in the ranks of airman basic to senior master sergeant, and to officers in ranks of second lieutenant to lieutenant colonel. Those who wait until beyond the deadline could encounter delays because the Air Force is planning a 23-day upgrade of the Military Personnel Data System.
