AF To Award Service Star

Active and reserve-component airmen who earn the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal may wear a service star should they receive second and third awards. The policy applies to airmen who earned the medal while serving in the following operations: Enduring Freedom; Iraqi Freedom; Nomad Shadow; New Dawn; and Inherent Resolve. It is retroactive to Sept. 11, 2001. It only applies to airmen who receive the GWOT Expeditionary Medal. Those who opted instead to accept the Iraqi Campaign, Afghanistan Campaign, or Air Force Expeditionary Medal cannot change their minds and convert to the expeditionary medal.
