The Air Force has announced several changes in uniform regulations:
* Utility uniform trousers must be tucked into boots and give a bloused appearance, effective 2010.
* Green fleece can be worn as an outerwear garment, with name, rank and service designators. Previously, the fleece was authorized as a liner for the all-purpose environmental clothing system.
* Airmen can now talk on cell phones while walking, as long as the devices are "a conservative color." Saluting is still required; hands-free devices worn in the ear are still barred.
* Enlisteds will wear chevrons on lightweight blue jacket sleeves instead of metal rank insignias on the collars, as of the beginning of next year.
* Bootlace ends must be tucked into boots; wrapping laces around boots is permitted.
* The lower leg pocket on the airman battle uniform will increase by about a half-inch.
* Airmen stationed to U.S. Central Command regions can wear fire-resistant clothing with upper sleeve pockets.
* Airmen who earn Army Parachute Riggers or Air Assault badges can wear them.
* Attaching ball caps to lower leg cargo pockets on battle dress uniforms is barred.
* The trouser fly buttons on women’s ABUs will be identical to the men’s.
