Airmen and guardians who qualify for decorations and awards could hopefully soon find the process for getting them approved easier to navigate. The Department of the Air Force’s (DAF) introduction of the myDecs Reimagined software application, available on the myFSS platform, is intended to provide a streamlined path, in part by reducing the amount of screens that cluttered the previous iteration.
“This new software coincides with a policy change to move the DAF away from reliance on the centralized Military Personnel Flights to file approved and signed decorations,” said Lt. Gen. Caroline Miller, deputy chief of staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services. “Our goal is to make the system more intuitive and create a smoother process for users.” (Airmen are advised to check on the status of pending / in process awards as there have been reports – unverified – that some in the queue did not transfer.)
The new myDec site will be used to process the Air and Space Meritorious Service, Air and Space Commendation, Aerial Achievement, Combat Readiness, and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service medals. Others may be added in the future.
As with the old myEval process, users can select who they route decorations information to and track the process. Nominators will be able to name the approval authority when they draft nominations. Decorations can be fully edited until signed. Users can add comments and routing notes. Once decorations are approved, they go directly to the record. Military personnel flights (MPFs) don’t need to review each transaction. And as with the myEval system, only HR (human resources) MPFs and CSS (commander support staff) are now necessary.
