Budget concerns are driving the Air Force to temporarily delay some permanent change of station moves within the continent. The Air and Space Forces Association reported that the shortfall in funding for personnel would affect airmen scheduled to move between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31. These PCS moves would be delayed until next Jan. 31 at the soonest. The Air Force can legally only commit funds for PCS moves that are budgeted for.
The report cited a memo from the Air Force Personnel Center that outlined details.
Exceptions include those that are granted by deputy commanders of major commands, with explanations as to why such transfers are warranted. This could include orders for military education or training.
Also, airmen due to move to or from the continental U.S., Space Force guardians and members of the National Guard and Reserve are not affected.
“Impacted airmen are permitted to request an exception to policy and should work closely with their leadership to submit a request,” a spokesman told A&SFA. “Those impacted should contact their local military personnel flight with questions.”
Noting that the delay could affect airmen who are trying to buy or sell a home or plan school years for their children, the report quoted the spokesman as saying the announcement should serve as ample notification. “The gap between order authentication and the report date provides airmen sufficient time to arrange movement of their household goods to their new duty station,” the spokesman stated.
