The Air Force is offering some retirees with critical skills the chance to return to duty. The service specifically needs former pilots, combat systems officers and air battle managers – all of which are now understaffed. Retirees with histories of service in these career fields can apply to rejoin the Air Force under the service’s Voluntary Retired Return to Active Duty Program. It is open to any eligible captains, majors or lieutenant colonels under age 50, and above that age on a case-by-case basis. As many as 1,000 retired officers could be allowed to rejoin, for tours ranging from 24 to 48 months. The program will accept applicants through Dec. 31.
