The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is looking for ways to detect and mitigate the presence of unwanted small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In a Request for Information (RFI) issued Aug. 11, DARPA called for:
• Conceptual designs and performance capabilities of such systems.
• Technology maturity assessment, “including data to substantiate technology maturity and identification of key risk areas requiring mitigation to enable system demonstration.”
• Program outlines for maturing such systems to the point that they can be demonstrated.
• Affordability.
• Estimates of weight, size and power needs.
• The abilities to address potential threats and integrate with third-party systems.
