The Army identified which units will deploy to Iraq beginning this fall and continuing into next year. Included are three division headquarters: the 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.; the 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.; and the 1st Armored Division, Wiesbaden, Germany. Eight brigade combat teams will also deploy. They are: The 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas; the 1st and 2nd Brigades, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.; the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Brigades, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.; the 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.; and the 53rd Brigade Combat Team, Florida Army National Guard. About 30,000 soldiers in those units will conduct a full range of missions during their deployment, largely to ensure that security and strategic agreements between the U.S. and Iraq are allowed to take hold and flourish.
