The Army no longer will require soldiers to wear reflective vests or belts while riding motorcycles. The service made the change after a review of accident reports determined that the reflective gear had no effect on incidents or safety. The service still requires that all motorcyclists have proper insurance and other related documents. Helmets approved by the Department of Transportation and proper clothing also are still required. While the service reported a 32-percent rise in fatal motorcycle accidents in 2016, these crashes largely were attributed to unsafe riding habits.
