Army basic-branch captains and majors who are promotable can request enrollment in an Intermediate Level Education (ILE) course provided by one of 16 foreign military services or the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps or Air Force. Officers selected will attend a course about 10 months in length beginning in the summer of 2008. Those chosen for the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the Joint Advanced Warfighting School, or a foreign school will first attend a two-week preparatory course at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Those selected for the Air and Navy Command and Staff Colleges will attend a two-week common core course as part of the curriculum at those schools. In most cases, officers requesting a foreign school should be proficient in the country’s language. Interested officers should contact their career management branch. Deadline for applications is Aug. 10.
