In a service-wide effort to mitigate post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and hopefully stem the alarming rate of suicides, the Army Surgeon General’s office has launched a program to assess the mental health of each soldier. “Being ‘Army Strong’ is more than just physically fit,” says Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Rhonda Cornum, the assistant surgeon general for force protection. “A lot of it is in your head.” The service will offer specific education and training regimens for individual soldiers, depending upon their overall mental health.
