By: FEDweek StaffThe Pentagon has begun the process of renaming Army installations that honored Confederate generals. Here is a list of the bases’ new and previous names:
• Fort Moore, Georgia (formerly Fort Benning)
• Fort Liberty, North Carolina (formerly Fort Bragg)
• Fort Eisenhower, Georgia (formerly Fort Stewart)
• Fort Walker, Virginia (formerly Fort A.P. Hill)
• Fort Cavasos, Texas (formerly Fort Hood)
• Fort Gregg Adams, Virginia (formerly Fort Lee)
• Fort Barfoot, Virginia (formerly Fort Pickett)
• Fort Johnson, Louisiana (formerly Fort Polk)
• Fort Novosel, Alabama (formerly Fort Rucker)
The Navy also plans to rename the cruiser USS Chancellorsville and oceanographic survey ship USNS Maury. Chancellorsville commemorates a Confederate victory; Maury is named for a naval officer who resigned to join the Confederacy.
All Confederate battle streamers will be removed as well.
