Senators Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Christopher Bond, R-Mo., have introduced S-938, which would require the Defense Department to pay Basic Allowance for Housing Type I to all Guard and Reserve members who have been called to active duty for more than 30 days. Currently, Reserve Component members called to active duty for less than 140 days receive BAH II. BAH I, which is paid to active duty members varies by the location of their assignment, whereas BAH II is the same regardless of location, and is considerably lower than BAH I.
