Two units of the Fort Bragg, N.C.-based XVIII Airborne Corps will deploy to Southwest Asia and Korea in the coming months, the Army announced March 19. The XVIII Airborne Corps headquarters will deploy 450 soldiers to Kuwait, while the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, will deploy 400 soldiers to Korea. The headquarters unit will serve as the headquarters for the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, the fight against the Islamic State, replacing III Corps. The combat aviation brigade, which is the Army’s sole remaining unit to fly Kiowa Warrior helicopters, will support ongoing security operations on the Korean peninsula.
