By: FEDweek StaffPresident Biden has nominated Air Force Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., to serve as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. If confirmed by the Senate, Brown would succeed Army Gen. Mark A. Milley as the senior-most military officer. He now serves as the Air Force chief of staff.
Biden indicated that Brown’s “accelerate, change or lose” mantra would make him the ideal candidate for the job.
“Our world is at an inflection point, where the decisions we make today are going to determine the course of our world for decades to come,” Biden said in the Rose Garden speech he made during the announcement of Brown’s selection. “And to keep American people safe, prosperous and secure, we have to move fast and adapt quickly. We have to maintain a combat-credible force capable of defeating any potential threat. And we have to manage our competition with China and meet the reality of renewed aggression in Europe.”
Biden went on to describe Brown as “unafraid to speak his mind as someone who will deliver an honest message that needs to be heard and will always do the right thing even when it’s hard.”
Brown’s career included stints as a pilot, flight instructor, and commander of both the Air Force Weapons School and 8th Fighter Wing, before moving into his position as the Air Force’s top general.
