Military families who hope to win scholarships for their children have until Feb. 20 to submit their applications. The scholarships are open to any unmarried children under age 21 (or age 23 if they are enrolled in school) of active, duty, reserve, National Guard or retired service members. Applications are available at commissaries, or online at www.commissaries.com. Forms can be filled out and filed electronically at www.militaryscholar.org as well. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS), and either already attending or planning to attend an accredited college or university full-time next fall. Junior college applicants must be enrolled in a curriculum designed for transfer to a four-year program. Since its inception in 2001, the Scholarships for Military Children Program has provided more than $5.5 million to more than 3,500 children in military families.
