The Coast Guard has launched a formal inquiry into the loss of F/V Destination, a Seattle-based crabbing vessel, and its six crewmembers. Destination disappeared on Feb. 11. Soon afterward, watchstanders at the Coast Guard’s Juneau, Alaska station received radio signals. Aircrews that responded soon located debris in the water that included life vests, buoys, tarps, and an oil sheen. The probe will focus on factors that contributed to the accident, any possible evidence of neglect or misconduct, and if any Coast Guard or government personnel contributed to the casualty.
